Essay

  • Introduction *

-* On May 1st 1959 the new york times announced there are big plans for the grounds of the bay chester area. the plan is for an amusement park called Freedomland U.S.A. it would be bigger then Disneyland, with a budget of $30,000,000. Freedomland is going to teach americans the history of there country. sadly freedomland came to an end around 1964. Why would a real estate company want to build the largest amusment park in such a place as the bronx? Why wasnt another freedomland built. While there were many reasons that caused the downfall of freedomland the main reason was it was very hard to get to.

There were many problems leading to the failure of freedomland. For example on August 27th 1959 a bull doser came to put everything there to dust in the bay chester area, where freedomland is suppose to be. The plan for this "big" event was to have everyone whos anyone there in attendence. There would be grand speeches and honored guest. helicopeters and trains were borrowed so people could be there and photographers could get a better view. Little did the event planners know that everything wasnt so planned out as they thought. The honored guest of this event were boy and girl scouts, and they didnt even want to come and participate in this "grand" event. the entertainment that was planned got ruin half way through the show, a helicopeter that landed caused a dust storm and made a big mess. the honored guest fleed from there seats and all the dust and dirt got into the food. This wasnt a good start to the beginning of freedomland.

Another problem leading to the faliure was the day it opened the traffic jam.
